The Center for Urban Pedagogy (CUP) believes that the power of imagination is central to the practice of democracy and that the work of governing must engage the dreams and visions of citizens. Its pioneering model brings together a diverse cross-section of New Yorkers to engage in rich discussions about social equality and urban living. Collaborations among artists, graphic designers, architects and urban planners with community activists, advocates, organizers, government officials, academics and policy makers produce innovative educational services, exhibitions, community partnerships, and media projects that teach about public policy.

CUP’s public school programs benefit hundreds of young people extending their learning beyond the classroom to create videos, magazines, or other media that communicates public policy issues they have learned to a wide audience. CUP also produces carefully-designed and content-rich fold-out posters that make policy issues more accessible. Public events encourage people from different disciplines to learn from each other.
