Century Dance Complex
Century Dance Complex (CDC) provides a safe haven for African immigrants and low-income families in Staten Island, home to approximately 20,000 Liberian refugees. This vibrant community studio offers dance classes in various genres and is an important drop-in center for referrals and information about immigration, schools, legal and other social services.
CDC provides a safe and supportive environment for young people. It offers African dance, ballet, jazz, hip hop, and tap dance at three levels - beginner, intermediate and advanced - drumming classes, tutoring and homework assistance. Young people ages 3 to 18 years meet daily in an after-school program to study dance; younger children also participate in arts and crafts while teens participate in life skills workshops. A Tiny Tots Program introduces 3 to 5 year olds to dance, and a six-week summer program for 6 to 18 year olds continues intensive training and performance and expands reading and literacy skills.
