Girls Write Now
Girls Write Now (GWN) helps girls from New York City’s public schools realize their writing potential by providing a safe and supportive environment where they can expand their talent and develop independent creative voices to make healthy school, career and life choices. GWN combines mentoring and writing training within the context of all-girls programming.
GWN matches high school students with professional women writers who serve as mentors and writing coaches. Mentors help mentees develop a seven-genre writing portfolio to prepare for school, job interviews, internships, contests, scholarships and college admissions. The objective is to provide increased literary and communication skills; access to a literary community and a safe space for sharing ideas; exposure to various genres and the craft of writing for life; confidence in public speaking; development of leadership abilities; expanded perspective on professional possibilities, and opportunities to submit writing for contest, scholarships and publications.
