People’s Theatre Project is a community-based organization serving Northern Manhattan with a focus on the Washington Heights and Inwood community spanning from 155th Street to the northernmost point of the island.  Established in 2008, its work is to build peace, foster dialogue, and enliven education through theater within its three branches. The Performance Branch develops socially conscious new works presented with a beautiful and simple aesthetic. The Education Branch encourages self-expression and activism in students by bringing theater residencies to local public schools. Finally, the Outreach Branch uses theater to give a voice to all members of the community.

With an equal emphasis on performance, education and outreach, People’s Theatre Project serves neighborhood children, youth, adults, senior citizens, and artists with bilingual and pay-what-you-can programs. The triangular approach engages the whole community in ongoing dialogue in of one of New York City’s most under-served districts.
