Concerned Citizens for Family Preservation
Folasade Campbell, Founder and Executive Director
Concerned Citizens for Family Preservation (CCFP) links parents and institutions with the goal of reunited families. It addresses the needs of families whose children have been placed in foster care. Based in Staten Island, CCFP’s purpose is to prevent children in low-income working class and immigrant communities from entering the child welfare system. Many such children are taken not because they have been brutally abused, but primarily because their parents are poor. CCFP advocates for families of children in the system by helping them navigate the bureaucracy and exercise their rights. It engages in grassroots education and organizing to effect change both within families and the larger community.
CCFP conducts parenting classes. Most participants mandated to take classes by the Administration for Children Services (ACS) and foster care agencies. The organization provides support groups and workshops in stress management, personal empowerment and navigating the system. CFP also provides referrals to supportive legal, psychological and health services organizations in order to become advocates for parents in family court, assist families during ACS home investigations and advocate for families during termination of parenting right conferences.
