Youth Empowerment Mission
Isis Sapp-Grant, Founder
Youth Empowerment Mission (YEM) develops and implements comprehensive strategies, programs and services that support and guide young people who are trying to find their way in high-risk environments. YEM provides a safe space where young people learn respects for self and others and responsibility to their community. Since 1995, YEM has delivered hard0hitting, practical workshops, presentations and training sessions to more than 50 community groups, organizations and schools.
As part of YEM’s outreach efforts in New York City, Ms. Sapp-Grant launched the Blossom Program for Girls in 2000 to address the needs of young women ages 12 to 18. This community-based program supports girls in developing a sense of self-worth and the will to make positive changes in their lives and community. Blossom includes comprehensive counseling services, innovative workshops, creative dance/step programs, homework help/academic enrichment services, trips and community service opportunities. The first phase involves a twelve-week orientation focusing on relationship building and basic life skills. In the second and third phase, each young women set and achieves personal development goals, as she “blossom” into a healthy, productive and positive young adult with each step of the program.
