The Brooklyn Food Coalition (BFC) is a grassroots organization dedicated to a just and sustainable food system in Brooklyn. The Coalition is committed to building an inclusive, multi-racial, and multi-cultural alliance of residents and community-based groups from all parts of Brooklyn reflecting the borough’s rich diversity.

Neighborhood chapters and special interest workgroups educate Brooklynites about how the food system works and how to change it. Participants learn from each other and coordinate volunteers for food-related community projects including urban farms, food pantries, and farmers’ markets. Through the Brooklyn School Food Network, parent groups in low-income communities advocate for system-wide school wellness. The Food Policy Committee is building an awareness and advocacy campaign about the U.S. Farm Bill.

Through educational programs, research, and advocacy, BFC works with partner organizations to raise public awareness about the food system emphasizing connections between health, sustainability, and social justice.
